This time I'm talking about Manny Ramirez. That's just Manny being Manny...being a filthy cheater. See ya in fifty days, loser.
Remember in the old super hero cartoon shows where the good guys never killed the bad guys and the bad guys got away, usually because the hero wanted the bad guy to go through the proper legal system? I remember watching, like, Batman and he'd be chasing after the Joker or somebody and Batman would, like, back the Joker against a wall in an alley or something. And Robin would be right there with Batman and I think Robin was thinking what we all were thinking, which was, "Great. He's trapped. Now kill him." But Batman would never kill him. (Even in the rougher comics, like The Killing Joke...he doesn't kill him.) He would say something like, "Okay, Joker. Now you're going to jail." Apparently Batman never remembered the thousands of other circumstances exactly like that one where the Joker never goes to jail. But I think Robin remembered and all of us watching remembered and we said, "What?! No, don't send him to jail, just freaking kill him." And I guess what happened was Batman called the cops and while they were waiting around for them to show up, the Joker made his escape. And Robin and the rest of us were like, "Batman, he's freaking getting away! We gotta go after him!" And Batman always put a hand on Robin's chest to stop him and said something like, "No, Robin. Let him go. There will be another day for justice." Which always used to make me so mad. You could have just killed him! Then, you could focus on other crimes instead of the same old guy doing the same old things. I guess in those cartoons the superhero was trying to show us all that justice catches up with everyone and we should all abide by the laws laid out in the justice system. First of all, great action adventure that does not make. But, I always thought that was a little too idealistic, you know? Because when does that ever happen? Isn't that why Bruce Wayne became a vigilante in the first place? Anyway, I was thinking about this though, because maybe Batman and those other heros who always let the bad guys go ended up kind of right. Like, with Manny. Man. Nobody likes that guy. He gets away with everything and when he does, everybody just goes, "That's just Manny being Manny." But "the system" caught him cheating with banned substances and the ax fell on him in a big way. 50 games out. Then there's the whole Drew Peterson thing. Everybody watched him clowning around in front of the cameras with a missing wife and another murdered wife before that and he thought he was the cat's pajamas, like nobody could touch him, and they touched him this week with murder charges. I could say the same thing for the ex-gov. They got him and are in the process of getting more of him now.
So, you know, I guess, thanks for showing us that, Batman.
