Article about the homeless

You know, what do you make of something like this? How do you take it? Something good? Something bad? Neither?

Some homeless men and women in Seattle have responded to the city's lack of shelter bed space by creating, essentially, their own community. That's not to knock Seattle in any way, of course. Chicago has a dearth of places to put homeless men and women and Phoenix did too when I lived there. It's a common problem, I'd say. It's also pretty common for homeless men and women to band together out there and create communities like this. This one just happens to be in the news. What's also common is the NIMBY resistance from people who live near places that shelter the homeless. Everybody gets afraid of crime going up and all that. They had that problem at Lincoln Park Community shelter. The neighborhood swore up and down that the large concentration of homeless men and women was contributing to a rise in crime. In all reality, the rise in crime was most likely attributable to drunk chads relieving themselves in the alley. Nobody hollers at them. ...I digress.

I don't really have a big point by showcasing this article. I just point it out as food for thought. What's common is common. In a lot of cities in the US.
